On 23 February 1921, Division One leaders Burnley visited the Baseball Ground on a run of 24 consecutive league games without defeat. Derby were bottom of the table with only two league wins all season: a 3-0 home win against Manchester City in October, and a 2-1 win at home to Huddersfield on New Year’s Day. Its objective was to give British citizens a feeling of successful recovery after World War Two and to promote British science, technology, culture and sport.
